A little word from our General Manager - Michael Obray on reopening following Covid-19


It goes without saying Covid 19 has posed exceptional challenges to all in many ways.  It has certainly hit a lot of industries worldwide hard and none more so than our wonderfully diverse hospitality industry. 

We thrive on providing a service to our guests, so the lock-down has impacted our lives more than just financially.  To be honest we really miss our guests a lot and this imposed closure of businesses has made us realise how much we love being in the service industry and pleasing guests and we are chomping at the bit to welcome them back.

So, in our eagerness to get back to the “new normal” at the hotel we have set an opening date to give us something positive to focus on.  We anticipate mid-July but we will announce this in due course once announcements have been made and we know what safety restrictions will be advised by Public Health England. 

However, at the KHH we are possibly more fortunate than some in so far as we have a fantastic range and diversity of catering spaces throughout the hotel that would lend themselves to social distancing dining and hotel stays.  These include our outdoor roof terrace, new courtyard, our two restaurants and 5 separate events spaces and private dining areas.  This will allow us the freedom of space to offer safe private dining as well as safe space restaurant dining. 

We have been working on safer ways to interact with our guests and to ensure safety of staff and guests remain a priority as we emerge into a new era of hospitality operations.  Infused with a good dollop of common sense and with the support of Bespoke Hotels Health and Safety experts we have clear and concise operational guidelines for each department when reopening the hotel.  These encompass all aspects of our daily operations including bedrooms, restaurants, room service and family or private dining.

In addition to the important safety considerations Executive Chef of KHH and MBB Brasserie, Ethan Rodgers has been putting together new menus to diversify our food offering to suit social distancing dining.  These include a good wholesome British restaurant menu, and room service menu with style, an outdoor terrace menu and a substantial choice of make your own picnic menus to take on your explorations of the beautiful Cotswolds and surrounding countryside as per our new Cotswold Escape Package.

All we need now are our lovely guests to stay or visit and savour and enjoy the experiences we have to offer at the Kings Head Hotel.  We look forward to welcoming you soon!!

How to plan the perfect baby shower

At Kings Head, we believe that every special occasion should be celebrated in style. Whether you’re an anticipating mum-to-be, or are the parent to a new born baby, there’s every reason to gather your friends and family in celebration of the new arrival.


Alternatively, if you’re the trusted friend of a mum-to-be, you might be thinking of surprising her with a baby shower. These usually take place around seven months into the pregnancy, since the mum-to-be is still comfortable enough to celebrate. It’s a good idea to start thinking about the party a few months in advance - make sure to keep these things in mind during the planning process:


Create a guest list & plan your budget

One of the first things you need to consider is the guest list. Having an idea of numbers will allow you to start planning the quantities of food, drink and other materials that you might need. Make sure to ask the mum-to-be beforehand who she would like to attend, and jot these down first, making them a priority. If it’s a surprise, try speaking to her close family members to get an idea of the people she’d definitely like you to invite.


At this stage, it’s also important to plan your budget, so you can gain an idea of the activities and venue that are realistically affordable for you.


Decorations: Buy or DIY?

Depending on your budget, chosen theme or timescale, you might decide to incorporate a combination of purchased and home-made decorations. If you allow enough time, and have enough helping hands available, then you could add some special touches to the event by making some bunting, posters, and even some games. You might even like to bake and decorate some cookies, or hand-make a hamper for the mum-to-be. Not only does this add a more personal touch to the event, but it can also help to save money.


Choose your theme and venue

Incorporating a fun theme adds something different to the usual baby shower. If you’re looking to indulge in afternoon tea, why not ask guests to participate in Alice In Wonderland-themed fancy dress?


When you’re deciding on the venue, try to opt for somewhere that allows you to be flexible – somewhere that has both an indoor and outdoor space, several function rooms to choose from and offers the services you need.


Make a robust plan

Although it’s a good idea to allow for a little flexibility during the event, you’ll be thankful that you created a robust plan beforehand. In addition to giving you peace of mind, an agenda will ensure that the day runs as smoothly as possible, allowing ample time for all of the activities you’ve planned.


Timings should, of course, feature in your plan - but you should also think about having a menu created, as well as detailed invitations that you can hand out to the guests.

How to host a successful corporate away day

Corporate away days can provide a breath of fresh air to the typical working week. Serving to bring employees closer together, away days can help to improve personal relationships, boost team working abilities and improve overall productivity and motivation levels going forward. These skills are integral to promoting a good office culture, leading to happier employees and ultimately, reflecting positively on your business.


Effective corporate away days usually consist of a meeting to discuss future plans in a boardroom, followed by an afternoon of team building activities to inject some fun into the experience. At Kings Head, our event rooms are ideal for business meetings and conferences, with all of the necessary equipment provided. We also offer a range of activities; from spa experiences and wine experiences to polo and rally driving, there’s something to suit every delegate.


Establish a purpose

Before you book your corporate away day, take some time to think about why you’re making this decision. It could be that you’re looking to improve employee relationships, or that you want to encourage more creative input and contributions to a new project. When you’ve established the reasoning behind your away day, the planning process becomes easier. Party the Night Away Underground

With Christmas and New Year’s Eve just two months away, party season is on the horizon. Here at Kings Head, we’re already beginning our preparations. We like to party all year round – which is why our unique underground music club runs events throughout the year for all of our guests to enjoy.

Our unique underground vaulted cellar has exposed brickwork and a statement arched ceiling that gives it true character, and is home to our popular cinema nights and comedy club. It’s also where we hold our live music performances, in which we collaborate with Glovebox Live to source musicians from all across the country.

On the 8th November 2018, Cornish trio William the Conqueror will be performing at our Vaulted Cellar – a well-known indie-rock band that have gained praise all over the country. After making their mark at AmericanaFest in Nashville, they signed a contract and subsequently performed at the UK Americana Awards 2017 alongside other artists, including Van Morrison and Richard Thompson.

We’ve previously had artists such as Nine Below Zero and Emily Barker perform in our music club, which were popular and provided great entertainment for our guests. This experience makes us a truly unique place to stay, and with dedicated staff on hand, you can be sure that you’ll be well looked after.

As well as our own events, the Vaulted Cellar can also be hired by our guests for private party hire – whether that’s for a birthday party or a venue to hold your Christmas gathering. Whatever you decide to use the Vaulted Cellar for, you can be guaranteed to have a lot of fun – we’ll provide disco lighting, as well as a dance floor that you and your friends can enjoy.

Here at Kings Head, our dedicated staff are on hand to make sure that you celebrate your New Year’s Eve in style. Come and join us in our celebrations to wave goodbye to 2018, and welcome 2019 with open arms.

We love celebrating the New Year – so we’re offering some special treats for our guests. Upon arrival on New Year’s Eve, you’ll be welcomed with a delicious cocktail before indulging in a four-course dinner. Our menu features sumptuous yet unique dishes, ranging from pink grapefruit cured salmon and leek and potato cappuccino to a selection of sweet desserts.

Our Resident DJ will be joining in on the fun, providing you with non-stop entertainment all evening! As you dance away into midnight, you’ll be handed a complimentary glass of fizz to celebrate the beginning of 2019. Festive Dining in the Restaurant

The festive season is just around the corner, and we think it’s about time we brought you an exciting sneak peek of our festive dining experience! Here at the Kings Head, we love all things Christmas – and for this December we will be dotting decorations around the hotel whilst serving up a delicious three-course festive feast for our guests to enjoy, using aromatic, seasonal ingredients.

Whether you choose to dine with us for lunch or dinner, our dedicated staff will ensure that you’re surrounded by a truly festive atmosphere to get you in the mood for the Christmas holidays. We’re also offering our guests the chance to book early and receive an extra surprise - those who book and confirm their table for the restaurant before Friday 16th November 2018 will receive a complimentary glass of fizz on arrival.

For those who would like to enjoy a Christmas feast with a difference, our Wine Cellar and Panel Room are perfect for parties of 8 or more. You’ll be presented with options ranging from smoked mackerel and a roasted Norfolk turkey dinner to a traditional Christmas pudding; see here for the full sample menu.

Alternatively, for those looking to dine with a much larger group of guests, our Assembly Room has a capacity of 150, whilst the Vaulted Cellar holds up to 100.
